Whiteaker Neighborhood  |  Eugene, Oregon

Eugene’s Whiteaker neighborhood has fostered an extensive history of counter-cultural politics and movements which over decades, has bred a unique literary culture. This rich literary history is often overlooked and has become inaccessible to the residents of the neighborhood and larger Eugene area. The Whiteaker Literary Complex is dedicated to educating people on this incredibly important piece of Eugene’s history, and to allowing the neighborhood to continue the tradition of radical community-based print media.

The western reading room houses a collection of literature created by Whiteaker residents. This includes accessible copies/reprints, as well as an archive of original journals, zines, and publications. The eastern production space is an adaptable industrial lab, able to facilitate the production of a variety of forms of print media. The two spaces are connected through a recessed outdoor space, open to all and dedicated to public gatherings.
